Matthew Grauslys, 17, of Manchester and the Executive Swim Club, competed in the recent USA Swimming National Championships in Irvine, Calif.

Competing against the fastest swimmers in the country (including Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte), Grauslys qualified and competed in the 50-, 100-, and 200-meter butterfly events. He advanced to the 18 and under final in both the 100 and 200 events. His time in the 100 (54.71) ranked him seventh in the nation for 17-18 boys, and broke a New England swimming record that stood since 1985.

His 200 time of 2:00.89 also ranked him seventh, and placed him 70th on the all-time list for the 17-18 age group.

Grauslys, a senior at Manchester Memorial High School, trains at the Executive Health and Sports Center in Manchester.

Hunt wins four events at N.E. championships

Maeve Hunt of Weare won four events at the recent 14-and-under New England Swimming Long Course Championships at Jenny Thompson Pool in Dover.

She competed in seven individual events, placing first in the 200-, 400-, 800- and 1,500-meter freestyle events, second in the 400-meter individual medley, and third in both the 200-meter butterfly and the 200-meter individual medley. Hunt achieved personal records in each of her individual events and won the individual high point award, placing first overall among 12-year-old girls.She swims for Crimson Aquatics in Andover, Mass.

He is in lane two in these USA Swimming posted events.
